How to hire UGC creators in India for your ads: costs, rights and briefs

QUICK ANSWER

UGC creators make videos for your ads and never post them on their own handle. In India a UGC video costs ₹3,500 to ₹15,000 including six months of usage rights, versus ₹20,000 to ₹60,000 for a studio-produced ad, and creator-style videos usually out-perform studio creative on click-through. Brands running Meta or YouTube ads should keep a pipeline of 10 to 20 fresh UGC videos a month.

UGC versus influencer marketing

An influencer post rents the creator's audience. A UGC video rents the creator's face and voice for your own distribution. No followers required, no posting, no reach. You get a raw and edited file, usage rights, and the creative that stops thumbs in the feed because it looks like a person and not a brand. Most performance marketing teams in India now run both, with UGC feeding the ad account every fortnight.

The brief that gets usable footage

  • The hook, written out, three options: a question, a problem, a surprising number.
  • The three things that must be said, and the words that must not be (claims, competitor names).
  • The shot list: product in hand, product in use, result, face to camera. Vertical, natural light, phone is fine.
  • The CTA and how long to hold the product on screen at the end.
  • Reference videos for tone, not for copying.

Ask for raw files as well as the edit. Your media buyer will re-cut winners into five variants.

Building a monthly pipeline

Ten to twenty videos a month from six to ten creators keeps an ad account from fatiguing. Rotate creators quarterly, keep the two or three whose faces convert as recurring, and test hooks rather than whole scripts. Brands that do this see creative refresh cycles drop from a month to a week and CPMs stabilise because Meta stops flagging the same creative.

Rights and paperwork

A written agreement covering platforms, duration, geography, paid usage and edits. Perpetual and worldwide rights cost more and are worth it for hero content. Get model release language in the same document. If a creator's face will run in ads for a year, pay for a year up front rather than renegotiating in month seven.

Frequently asked

What is a UGC creator?

A creator who makes brand videos for the brand to use in its own ads and channels, without posting to their own audience. They are paid for the content and rights, not for reach.

How much does UGC content cost in India?

₹3,500 to ₹8,000 for a single video with six months of usage rights; ₹8,000 to ₹25,000 for specialist creators such as doctors or chartered accountants. Bundles and monthly pipelines bring the per-video cost down.

Do UGC videos really perform better than brand ads?

On Meta and YouTube, creator-style videos typically produce higher click-through and lower cost per result than studio creative for D2C, apps and services, because they look like content rather than ads. Test both; keep what wins.
